6th Annual Charity Poker Tournament sets record!

The first Joe Hachem and Shane Warne Charity Poker Tournament was held back in 2008 as a way to welcome World Poker Champion Joe Hachem to the team as an Australian Patron. The event was an instant success, and has grown each year since then to become The Shane Warne Foundations biggest annual event. This year’s sixth instalment did not disappoint last week, smashing all previous records with over $300,000 raised on the day!

This year we welcomed a new member to the team, with Yasmin Kassim joining as an Ambassador, generously donating her time to present our red carpet arrivals and celebrity interviews. “I am thrilled to be joining The Shane Warne Foundation as an Ambassador. They are so passionate about helping seriously ill and underprivileged Aussie kids and I am proud to be joining the team” said the 22 year old actress.

As always, celebrities from all areas of Australian sports and entertainment turned up to show their support for the Foundation and the work that we do. Some of the guests included Rhys Muldoon and Gary Sweet from the hit TV show House Husbands, AFL footballers Brendan Goddard and Steven Baker, TV personality Brodie Harper, as well as Andy Lee, Tiffany Cherry, Tom Waterhouse, Guy Leech and Australian cricketing legend Merv Hughes to name a few, but it was Shane Warne and fiancé Elizabeth Hurley who stole the show, looking as gorgeous as ever on the red carpet. “It’s fantastic to have so much support for this event, and to see all the celebrity guests turn up year after year and donate their time to help us raise these much needed funds” said TSWF Chairman Shane Warne.

While the celebrities shone on the red carpet, it was The Shane Warne Foundations newest sponsor Jeep Australia who was the real star on the day. Having committed to donating a brand new Chrysler 300c as the main auction item of the day, CEO Clyde Campbell shocked the whole room by donating a second car on the spot when the bidding finally stopped and there were two bidders remaining. It was a staggering show of generosity, reflecting the values of the Jeep Chrysler Dodge brand, and ensured that this years event was the most successful ever.

The event was held this year for the first time in the newly refurbished West End at Crown, in a brand new private gaming area, with food proudly donated by The Merrywell. Guests were treated to drinks provided by 666 Vodka and HBlin Champagne throughout the day and into the early evening and a wonderful time was had by all. The eventual winner of the tournament was Mike Turnley, who received an incredible Poker Prize Package valued at $25,000, including entry into the 2013 Aussie Millions Poker Championship and 2013 World Series of Poker Asia Pacific.

I think Shane was more excited then Jackson, who played very well and was very respectful on the tables. Congratulation to Jackson Warne on winning a Kia Car from Chadstone Kia for finishing in first place.
